The two U.S. senators investigating UnitedHealth Group’s nursing home practices are doubling down on their demands for information from the company, after additional reporting and whistleblower testimony that allege the company’s refusal to transfer patients to hospitals caused their deaths.
In a letter to UnitedHealth CEO Stephen Hemsley on Wednesday, Sens. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) called the health care conglomerate’s initial response to their request for information in August “inadequate.”
UnitedHealth Group CEO Andrew Witty resigned in May, stepping down into an advisory role. Taking his place is the company’s current chairman of its board of directors, Stephen J. Hemsley, who previously served as UnitedHealth’s CEO from 2006 to 2017.
