Denver, Colorado will not cooperate with certain plans of the incoming Trump administration to combat illegal immigration, including mass deportations, Mayor Mike Johnston told Denverite Wednesday.

President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming "border czar" Tom Homan has vowed to address illegal migrants who entered the country during President Joe Biden’s time in the White House. Cartel members and terrorists who entered the country, he said last week, may soon be the subject of a U.S. military operation.

“They have killed more Americans than every terrorist organization in the world and Trump is committed to calling them terrorist organizations and using the full might of the United States Special Operations to take them out," Homan said on Fox News of these individuals.

Mayor Johnston has overseen a massive influx of migrants to his city, causing it to cut a combined at least $45.9 million worth of expenses from several agencies. Despite this, the mayor told Denverite he will not cooperate with Trump’s plans or change his treatment of newcomers.

The short answer is, we won't change that, because those are one of our core values,” Mayor Johnston said. “And we're not going to sell out those values to anyone. We're not going to be bullied into changing them.”

“I think we are gonna continue to be a welcoming, open, big-hearted city that's gonna stand by our values,” Johnston added.
