BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Residents in the Broadmoor subdivision say a new sound has joined the usual birds and bees over their neighborhood: Amazon’s drone delivery service.
“First thing I thought it was UFO, honestly,” one resident said. “Because you hear it before you actually see it and it makes you look up and you wonder what is it.”
Residents describe growing concern
Michael Grabert, a Broadmoor resident, said his view of the drones has shifted since they began flying.
“You know I initially didn’t think much of it, but now I’m in the thought process of: they’re here all the time and what does the future look like? Is Walmart gonna start using them, Target, are we gonna have to have drones flying over our heads constantly?” Grabert said.
Grabert and his family live under the flight path for drones coming from the Amazon warehouse at the former Cortana Mall location. He said the sound is difficult to avoid, even indoors.
“They are definitely loud enough for us to hear in the house over the AC, over the sound machine or whatever else is going on, so you don’t have to be outside to hear it. You can hear it inside too,” Grabert said.
Residents in the area estimated seeing a drone roughly every two to five minutes. A spokesperson for Amazon said there are 20 drones on site, with 10 allowed in the sky at a time, per FAA regulations.
