KING COUNTY, Wash. — The latest data from the King County Medical Examiner’s Office (KCMEO) shows the number of people dying in the county from drug overdoses continues to skyrocket.

According to the KCMEO fatal overdose dashboard, there have been 987 confirmed drug overdoses or alcohol poisoning deaths in the county so far this year. There were 1,001 drug and alcohol poisoning deaths in King County in 2022, according to the data.

The data, which was last updated Wednesday evening, shows 806 of the overdose deaths in the county this year involved fentanyl. There was a total of 714 overdose deaths involving fentanyl reported in King County in 2022.

King County exceeded last year's total fentanyl overdose deaths by mid-September, according to data from Public Health – Seattle and King County.
