the Virginia Electoral Board officially certified John McGuire and Chris Faraldi as winners in their respective races, following an intense election that saw incredibly tight contests and even legal challenges.

In the June 18 primary, incumbent Bob Good faced off against State Senator John McGuire for the GOP nomination for the 5th District congressional seat. The race was too close to call for most of the night, capturing widespread attention.

With 98% of the votes counted, according to the Associated Press, McGuire secured 31,411 votes, narrowly edging out Good, who received 31,084 votes. The night ended with McGuire leading by less than one percent.

At his election night party, McGuire declared himself the winner. July 2, the electoral board confirmed his narrow victory.

Former President Donald Trump’s endorsement switch from Bob Good to John McGuire added another layer of complexity, creating a significant divide within the GOP.

The financial stakes in this race were also historic, with both campaigns raising substantial amounts of money.

McGuire will now move on to face Democrat Gloria Witt in the November general election. Bob Good is expected to contest the results, signaling a prolonged battle over the final outcome.
