Protesters are calling for justice after it was determined an 18-year-old Oklahoma man, who was convicted on several rape-related charges, will not face jail time.
Protesters gathered Wednesday outside the Payne County Courthouse in Stillwater to call for justice after it was determined that 18-year-old Jesse Butler will not face jail time.
Body camera footage from Stillwater Police shows Butler, then 17, being arrested at his home earlier this year. He was convicted of 11 charges in total, 10 of which were related to rape. Those charges include domestic assault, battery by strangulation, rape by instrumentation and violating a protection order.
Records show the charges stem from incidents with two different victims.
Butler pleaded no contest, and what was originally a 78-year sentence was changed after he was given youthful offender status. Now, he will not face jail time if he meets requirements such as community service and attending counseling.
