‘Operation Double Down’ leads to seizure of drugs, guns in Arizona; 25 arrested

A multi-agency operation involving local state and federal officials in Arizona led to arrest warrants for 25 people and the seizure of large quantities of drugs, money, guns and vehicles brought into the state from Mexico.

“Through more than 2,000 hours of surveillance, hundreds of warrants, court orders and months of investigation. Law enforcement officers identified and disrupted major players in this network,” Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said.

Dubbed “Operation Double Down,” law enforcement agencies confiscated 1.7 million fentanyl pills, over 26 kilograms of fentanyl powder, over 24 kilograms of cocaine, 370.2 pounds of methamphetamine, 13 pounds of heroin, nearly $210,000 in cash, 14 vehicles and 28 firearms.

The Phoenix Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and Arizona High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) worked together in this seven month long mission as part of a bigger mission to target these international dealers.

“What you see before you are lives saved. These are the drugs that don’t make it to your community, to your school, to your kids. These are their lives,” said Cheri Oz, DEA Phoenix Special Agent.

The mission was one out of many that law enforcement agencies conduct to keep drugs off our streets.
