Armed robbers are going after people in shopping center parking lots around Lynnwood. While police chase down leads, investigators are also urging the public to be vigilant about their surroundings.
The most recent holdup happened Sunday night in a shopping center parking lot in the 19000 block of Hwy 99.
“A family was actually walking home when three male subjects jumped out of the bushes there and demanded that they hand over their purses,” said Maren McKay, spokesperson for the Lynnwood Police Department, adding that at least one man displayed a gun.
A police K-9 team tracked the armed robbers to the backside of Trinity Lutheran Church at 6215 196th St SW in Lynnwood, where the scene went cold. Police are asking people in that neighborhood who have security cameras to check if they captured any useful footage from this past Sunday after 7 p.m.
Lynnwood police are investigating two other recent armed robberies. In both cases, it involved two armed suspects who approached people in parking lots and stole their cars.
On Oct. 20, two people were sitting in a parked car at the Alderwood Mall when they were suddenly confronted.
“A couple was on their first date and were in their vehicle when two male subjects approached them in their car, held them at gunpoint,” McKay said.
Those gunmen ended up stealing the victims' car, along with their personal items.
