SEATTLE — Washington State Ferries (WSF) project a surge of nearly 400,000 people on ferries between Thursday and Tuesday for Labor Day weekend travel, making it the busiest summer in four years.

With this projection, WSF expects Saturday to be the peak travel day for the upcoming holiday weekend, as their top 10 ridership days since 2019 have all occurred on a Saturday. So far this summer, seven of WSF's top 10 ridership days occurred on Saturdays and resulted in nearly 600,000 passengers combined.

With long vehicle lines and wait times with the holiday weekend, WSF asks Labor Day ferry travelers to prepare for possible last-minute schedule changes. Sailings may be delayed or canceled with short notice, according to WSF, which has been struggling with a staffing crisis for some time.
