OLYMPIA, Wash. — Work to take control of the fentanyl and opioid crisis across the state, including tribal lands, has taken a step forward since Governor Jay Inslee just signed a number of bills into law.
“Fentanyl is a scourge in the state of Washington. It is the nuclear weapon of opiates that are attacking our young and not so young people,” said Governor Jay Inslee, addressing a ballroom full of people at the Tulalip Resort, eager to see each bill signed.
One bill, known as the Lucas Petty Act, was named after a young man who passed away from fentanyl poisoning in 2022. His mother, Maria Petty, worked hard to get this legislation passed, to spare other families from similar pain.
Rep. Mari Leavitt sponsored the bill, citing a number of alarming statistics.
