Peanut Butter CookiesThere is a reason why the Bible tells us to not be afraid. It says Fear Not 365 times, one for every day. That can’t be a coincidence. God knew how hard life would be with all its challenges so he put reminders in His Holy word, 1 for every day. As you walk through this life, Fear Not.
I have spoken across the country for thousands of people. Students, women’s events, entrepreneur events, business people who want to grow. The one thing I get asked more than anything is overcoming fear. What I say to them is this; You have to look at fear as an obstacle to overcome. How does one do that? Well, there are many ways to conquer fear. You have to climb over it, go around it, blow it up or go through it.
Fear can be paralyzing. It holds us back from our true potential.
I have decided to be the person who lives for the What If? Not the Why Not? The What If is the scarier option.I refuse to be the What If Person.
I can imagine myself sitting on a front porch 90 years old ( hope I make it there) and say Man, Why didn’t I try to do this or that? The most frightening thing to me is regret. Regret that I didn’t try. That is actually more scary than failing and being embarrassed , loosing everything and starting from scratch. Which I have had to do in the past years. Yes I got my butt kicked, Yes I lost some things, Yes I lost money… But did I?
Did I just loose some stuff and also figure out who my real friends are.
Sometimes the winnowing away is the best in the long run.
What did I learn? Oh my goodness! Enough to write 2 books which I am in the process of doing.
All of these people I have had conversations with tell me their biggest fear is taking the first step. They are stuck in a trench, unable to move forward.
Then I share with them this visual: In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Indy is in a cave and he comes to a dead end with a huge chasm that wont allow him to cross to the other side. Then he remembers a riddle to his map. Just take the first step out and the path will appear as if it was magic. He takes a big breath hoping he doesn’t fall to his death. Then there he goes! He steps out and when he does a walking stone appears for him to step on, then another and another, and finally it leads him to the other side of this huge cavern.
He took a huge step of faith without knowing his path.
As an entrepreneur you must take the scary steps of faith and Fear Not! Knowing once you do the path will illuminate as you walk. If it’s the wrong path don’t worry God will let you know and you may get your butt kicked while trying but at least you tried and you just keep going until you find the right one. It’s in the trying and never giving up that is the real success. Constantly create , That is true success. God is the ultimate creator and we were made to create.
Lord, be a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Psalms 119: 104-105
Hope this is encouraging to the person in fear. If you always stay on the easy path and the sidewalk you might stay safe and not get hurt…but you might not achieve your full potential either.
I heard this line as a little girl and it has always stuck with me. Reach for the stars, you may not get one but you wont end up with a handful of mud either…
