Following the devastating Fourth of July weekend flooding, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump addressed the affected Hill Country communities in Kerrville earlier today.
They were joined by Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Texas Department of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd, and U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn.
“The First Lady and I are here in Texas to express the love and support and the anguish of the entire nation in the aftermath of this really horrific and really deadly flood,” said President Trump.
“I’ve never seen anything like this,” he noted, after viewing the wreckage left by the flood.
The flash floods that took place last weekend have resulted in the death of 120 Texans, with 169 reported missing.
Trump conveyed his sympathy to the community, saying, “We mourn for every single life that was swept away in the flood, and we pray for the families that were left behind.”
The First Lady made similar remarks. “My deepest sympathy to all of the parents who lost beautiful, young souls… We are grieving with you. Our nation is grieving with you. We just met with the wonderful families. We prayed with them. We hugged. We shared the stories,” said Melania.
Trump also addressed the families who lost their children at Camp Mystic, “As we grieve this unthinkable tragedy, we take comfort in the knowledge that God has welcomed those little, beautiful girls into his comforting arms in Heaven. We have to believe that, and we do.”
