GUEST COLUMNIST: Who Enables Illegal Aliens in Texas?

A Fort Worth, Texas church has been given control of nearly a billion dollars of taxpayer funds to dole out cash to border crossers and has given tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to Soros-funded organizations.

In 2021 Catholic Charities of Fort Worth (CCFW), the primary charity arm of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth, began a somewhat unique relationship with the Biden-Harris Administration and with HHS Secretary Xavier Beccera. Under the arrangement, all federal grants for the State of Texas regarding cash payments to “refugees” would be given to the charity, with CCFW receiving discretion over who the money was handed out to[1].

CCFW established the Texas Office for Refugees (TOR) to handle all of the grants. Since 2022, they have received over $800 million from the Biden-Harris Administration.[2] Who did CCFW give these funds to? According to their 2022 Form 990, they gave over $25 million in that year alone to the International Rescue Committee[3], an international immigration nonprofit. The IRC, which already receives over $1 billion a year[4] - a majority of that directly from the Biden-Harris Administration[5] - is funded in part by George Soros and Bill Gates[6], with the express purpose of helping immigrants “become permanent residents and US citizens.”[7]

The IRC claims to “help over 50,000” immigrants yearly, and their website claims to have settled over 26,000 in Dallas alone.[8] In 2022, the President of the IRC made over $1 million in salary from the alleged “charity,” and several other employees received a higher salary than the President of the United States[9]. But the IRC isn’t the only federally funded immigration group receiving millions per year of tax dollars from Catholic Charities of Fort Worth that has money management issues. In the same year, CCFW gave over $13 million to Refugee Services of Texas, a Dallas-based immigration NGO. This nonprofit also worked with immigrants to help them attain citizenship.

If you’re not familiar with Refugee Services of Texas, I don’t blame you—it shut down in 2023 due to financial mismanagement and a lack of funds[10]. In 2021, RST received over $20 million ($19 million of which was from federal grants).[11] Was Catholic Charities of Fort Worth aware of RST’s money problems when they wrote an eight-figure check to the organization with your tax dollars? They should have been. In 2020 - well before the money was given - the federal Office of the Inspector General investigated Refugee Services of Texas and found that they had violated rules regarding the usage of federal grant money[12].

One such violation was that they had paid consultant rates exceeding $650 per day. The HHS grant from which CCFW has received nearly a billion dollars since 2022 is grant program 93.566, which gives cash payments to “refugees” and pays their medical expenses.[13] Under this program, immigrants can receive cash payments of up to $685 per month[14], and can even receive incentive bonuses for things like getting a job or keeping a job for certain lengths of time[15]. If only we were all so lucky as to receive cash bonuses for getting a job. The program also pays for medical expenses incurred by the immigrant or his family - up to 100% of the cost - for things like doctor visits, hospitalization, prescription medications, and emergency services[16]. That’s right - while you are paying exorbitant prices for health insurance, immigrants are receiving completely free health care using your tax dollars.

The money that CCFW is handing out to migrants and to other “charities” is specifically for “refugees.” To understand how this money is benefiting illegals, let me explain how the Biden-Harris administration abuses the asylum process to help make illegal aliens into voting citizens. When an illegal crosses the border and is apprehended, he can claim asylum. Once he does this, he receives an asylum interview from an immigration officer (usually hired by Biden-Harris). If the officer accepts his claim, he is granted asylum status, and is “legally” in the country, able to receive refugee benefits from these nonprofits. If the officer doesn’t accept his claim, the illegal goes to immigration court - many of which again are Biden-Harris hires - and gets another chance. This time, he has lawyers provided for free by these pro-immigration nonprofits.

Once an immigrant receives some form of “legal” status - say through the asylum process, which groups like CCFW, the IRC, and formerly RST pay lawyers to help them acquire - he can apply for many other benefits like WIC, TANF, SNAP, Section 8 housing assistance, and assistance with energy bills. Once these federally funded Soros lawyers help immigrants gain an asylum claim, their foot is in the door to receive thousands of dollars per month of taxpayer dollars - and they are often on a path to citizenship. Asylees can apply for permanent legal resident status after one year, and apply for naturalization (citizenship) after 5 years as a permanent legal resident. The fact that millions of illegal aliens are given a form of asylum status after they cross illegally into the United States means we are literally paying for more to come.

While Catholic Charities is a major problem, it is only an example of a multitude of religious organizations including Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services, Jewish Family Service, and others who provide similar services. These federally funded charities - and there are many in Texas alone - all claim to have helped tens of thousands of people attain legal status and some even citizenship. Catholic Charities of Fort Worth, for example, has an Immigration Services law firm that helps people do just that.[17] It should come as no shock that not a single staff member has a Republican voting history, and in fact many of them have solid Democrat voting histories. All across the nation, charities - many of them religious in name - are receiving billions of dollars a year directly from the Biden-Harris Administration to give immigrants cash payments and to help them receive citizenship; and in Texas, it centers on Catholic Charities of Fort Worth.

The example of Catholic Charities Fort Worth is just one of dozens of ways Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have literally sold out the American people in favor of illegal aliens, refugees, and foreign nationals. And it’s only the latest reason to vote for Donald Trump and every Republican on the ballot in November.
