Two years of defunding the police

The time has come to have a frank conversation and begin the planning of much needed intervention in America’s progressive led cities. These cities have quite literally turned into warzones overnight, with the innocent citizen inhabitants tethered to the bedlam 24/7. After another record setting weekend in many of these cities, hundreds of victims from Seattle to Philadelphia, lay bleeding in America’s streets needlessly.

To give some grim context, Philadelphia recorded more homicides in 2021 than America’s two largest cities combined (Los Angeles and New York). That number is set to break another record in 2022. Philadelphia is not an anomaly. Atlanta, Austin, Portland, St. Paul, Houston, Oakland, Baton Rouge and 17 other progressive democrat led cities stand to break their homicide records in 2022.

The root causes to this violent surge are simple.

First, cash bail reform has placed a giant target on the backs of every peace-loving citizen where it’s been implemented. The progressive mantra that bail is essentially racist has proven lethal for far too many innocent civilians. The epic failure of the social justice experiment on bail has claimed thousands of lives unnecessarily; and will continue to do so unless the people demand justice from the feckless elected leaders that caused the suffering in these communities.

Second, the “defund the police” rhetoric has had devastating impacts on policing efforts throughout America’s cities and towns. It has not only irreparably harmed these communities, but it has also damaged the ranks within the police departments. There is a 40% increase in early retirement and resignation, and fewer recruits entering the police academies.

Locally, Seattle’s police department is down over 30% year to date. Woke policies and the firing of unvaccinated officers are the primary factors in Seattle’s current violent crime wave, which seems to be escalating day by day. Seattle has just eclipsed one of its bloodiest months on record.

Ironically, cities like Baltimore, Minneapolis, Oakland, and New York were the first cities to act on the absurd defund rhetoric and are now pursuing resources to increase their policing budgets; go figure.

Third, revolving door justice and soft on crime policies. 95% of all violent crime is committed by the same 5% of criminals. To allow these recidivists continued release from incarceration is like pouring hot coals on dry grass. Law-enforcement can make all the arrests it possibly can, but if prosecutors are unwilling to prosecute, and judges continue to release these criminals without bail, the vicious onslaught on peaceful America will continue unabated.

The effect on these communities has been devastating. In Los Angeles for example, in November 2021 the city council cut the police budget by 150 million dollars; and seven months later, homicide rates are up 41% in the City of Angels. New York’s lawmakers took $484 million from its police budget, now shootings are up 64% in less than a year. Portland, Oregon has seen a 533% increase in homicides from the prior year.

Historically, if we look at the world’s greatest empires, and their ensuing collapses, they all happened from within. Vilifying and demonizing the protectors is the first step in a societal collapse. The subsequent lawlessness and incivility that follows is the manifestation of these intentional community killing policies. ◆
