Anyone that has read anything that I have written, probably understands that I’m a huge fan of history, especially American history. As a candidate for office, I utilized much of what I knew about history in reaching my decision to seek higher office in 2022. This wasn’t the entire reason, but certainly an important factor.
With America’s economy in the tank, her southern border obliterated, outrageous inflation, record crime and the looming recession, most people believed that the party in power must be held to account for their reckless policies, as did I. After all, occupying all three government houses, means you own every bit of the blame, especially when it is policy driven. You certainly can’t pin this mess on the orange man.
An autopsy of the 2022 election cycle clearly shows that the so-called red wave we were expecting, was nothing more than a pinkish ripple, but why? Personally, I believed republicans would take a 25-35 seat margin in the house of representatives; and a three-four seat majority in the senate. After all, if history is any guide, a quick peak back in 2010 would validate my point on voting habits across the country.
Anyway, so what happened? What would cause such a paralytic response to an abysmal two years of Joe Biden and his fellow democrats’ apathetic leadership? Many things can be factored into the equation, but I want to focus on one of the biggest culprits, big tech bias. I’ve said for years now, that if big tech is left unchecked, it will manifest into everything we expect them to.
Section 230 of the U.S code (The Communications and Decency Act) essentially gives the social media platforms the autonomy to provide a platform where speech can flow unrestricted in the digital town square; without government interference. By giving them a high degree of latitude, the idea was that they will conduct themselves with strict adherence to constitutional values.
Evidence has now come forward through whistleblowers and Twitter information release (Twitter files) that these tech companies created direct communications channels with government operatives to suppress and censor political speech of American citizens; in direct violation of the first amendment of the constitution.
These ideologs further suppressed journalists, entire newspapers, whistleblowers and blocked a free press from disseminating information to the public, in both digital and printed venues. FBI officials colluded with big tech and opened censorship channels to suppress average American citizens that disagreed with their propagandized and political narrative. They utilized current and former intelligence officers from the FBI, DHS, and the CIA, which also included several Biden administration officials.
Furthermore, evidence shows agencies such as Health and Human Services (HHS), the Treasury Department and Department of Defense (DOD), also funneled requests for suppression on conservative accounts and posts on social media. Anything that disagreed with the government’s narrative on matters such as the southern border, vaccines, January 6, or Ukraine was targeted for suppression.
The first amendment of the constitution mandates that government cannot abridge, limit or censor speech based on its content. Even if the government’s motive is sincere and well-intended, it must not collide with this constitutional guardrail. Free speech must flow abundantly and unabated in the public square as the founders intended. Our government should always be in the business of protecting the continuation of steadfast dialogue.
Sadly, a 2021 Pew Research Center Poll has shown that two thirds of democrats support the government taking steps to restrict speech. This dangerous trend clearly shows a lack of understanding with allowing any government the ability to restrict or eliminate free speech.
Orwell wrote, “Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book has been rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue, street and building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And that process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except the endless present in which the party is always right.”
