In one of the most stunning displays of disrespect, U.S. Representative Al Green (D TX) took it upon himself to inject chaos into the hallowed chamber of the United States House of Representatives, during a Presidential address. As President Trump stood stoic addressing both chambers of congress, and the American people, Green burst onto the scene like a bad punchline in an already distasteful joke, showing the world just how far the Democrat party has devolved from its once stately origins.
Gone are the days when decorum was the order of the day. Instead, we now witness a party more interested in theatrics than governance. One would have thought that waving placards and shouting catchphrases would be left to the fringe radicals standing outside the Capitol, but no, this is the “new normal” that progressive Democrats have promised. I think what’s even more shocking, is that Rep. Green is not a one off, he’s part of a larger trend engulfing the Democrat party itself. It’s only a matter of time before they start cannibalizing themselves.
But let’s dig a little deeper, shall we? When Rep. Green’s voice pierced through the hallowed halls of Congress, it was emblematic of a party so lost that it relies on protest and disruption as its primary form of political engagement. Unfortunately for Democrats, Rep. Green has become a poster child for a party that has traded its historic legacy for childish antics.
Let’s be clear though, this isn’t an isolated incident; it mirrors a wider trend within the Democrat party, which increasingly appears to be a collection of elected protesters rather than a coherent governing body. Losing the presidency, and both chambers of congress should have been a rally cry, instead, it became a spectacle for grandstanding and juvenile shenanigans disguised as political activism.
While Green’s theatrics may excite the progressive base, its’s hard not to roll your eyes in disgust, no matter which side of the political aisle you sit on. Americans are seeking serious solutions during troubling times, not a circus like atmosphere in America’s Congressional Chamber. Like it or not, there’s an expectation of dignity no matter who’s in the white house.
Moreover, this kind of behavior serves only to highlight the cracks within the party itself. Tensions within the Democrat party are palpable, with factions increasingly at odds with one another. I wrote about this years ago, when an immature freshman congresswoman from New York (AOC), challenged Nancy Pelosi (D CA) for the role of house speaker. This was the genesis of the progressive hijacking of the Democrat party; one they seemed all too happy to embrace at the time.
Perhaps, the rest of the Democrat party should thank Rep. Green for shining this less than flattering spotlight on their party. Green’s interruption is less a cry for justice and more a sign of desperation, as the Democrat party continues to move further and further away from the will of the American people. At some point, they’re going to have face the inevitable consequences of becoming nothing more than protesters with no plan, no direction, and no dignity.
So, what’s next for the so-called party of the people? The fallout demands accountability more than ever. If this is truly the direction that the democrats wish to take, they need to prepare for severe consequences for many years to come. The American people want representatives who can engage thoughtfully; not disruptively. If Democrats ever wish to be taken serious again in the arena of governance, they must demand decorum and purpose from those that commandeered it.
