There’s an unpleasant truth many on the left prefer to ignore; you generally get the government you vote for. Not the government you claim you want. Not the government you complain about at the dinner table. Not the government you blame when taxes rise, prices surge, services deteriorate, crime explodes, and you’re priced out of your community. You get the government produced by your uninformed choices, or your refusal to make better ones.

If you keep voting for incompetent, dishonest, and financially irresponsible leaders, then stop pretending you are merely an innocent victim of the system, because you are a direct participant in its construction. You hand power to progressive Democrats (Socialists) who spend money they don’t have, promise benefits they cannot deliver, expand bureaucracies they cannot manage, and then send you the bill for their failures. This is the Democrat socialists of America (DSA) platform.

Socialists do not create wealth or prosperity.  Their goal is to figure out how best to siphon or extract money from we the people. Every dollar spent must come from taxation, borrowing, or the confiscation of private wealth; simple as that. Financial resources do not magically appear because progressive Democrats have great ideas. The money comes from you; you pay. Your family pays. Your children pay; and future generations pay for the fantasy that government can provide everything to everyone without consequences.

Yet millions of Democrat voters continue rewarding and promoting socialist progressive leaders who make extravagant promises without truly understanding the concepts of fiscal responsibility and fiscal sustainability. They demand more programs, more subsidies, more regulations, more government, and then act shocked when taxes skyrocket, and personal freedoms are diminished.

The state takes the earnings from workers, entrepreneurs, families, and businesses, then distributes the proceeds while demanding gratitude for its generosity. It taxes income, consumption, property, investment, inheritance, fuel, energy, transactions, utilities, and nearly every productive activity it can touch. And voters who continually endorse this abuse of office cannot wash their hands of responsibility. If you vote for these leaders who have repeatedly demonstrated incompetence, corruption, and contempt for our capitalist values; you are just as culpable; or in my opinion, much worse.

A population that demands ever-expanding government eventually discovers its unsustainability. The more dependent people become on state programs, the more leverage the feckless leaders acquire over their lives. This is why thoughtless voting is not harmless, it has consequences. Elections determine who controls the machinery capable of taxing, regulating, and borrowing from the people. Casting a ballot for a proven failure because you like his or her party label is not civic responsibility, its political ignorance disguised as loyalty.

This brand of ignorance has plenty of victims. Your neighbors pay when businesses close under crushing regulations. Your children pay when debt consumes future budgets. Retirees pay when inflation destroys their savings. Families pay when housing, food, energy, and healthcare become unaffordable. Everyone pays when government incompetence becomes so entrenched that basic services deteriorate as the administrative state grows.

Democrat voters scream for accountability from everyone except themselves. They blame corporations, wealthy individuals, the titans of industry, Trump, the media, or some just blame “the system.” If you repeatedly elect leaders who produce disastrous results, you do not get to play the victim. Voting should not be viewed as some tribalistic ritual. Demand receipts. Demand measurable outcomes. Demand budgets that balance. Demand they act like employees whose salaries and authority depend on results that benefit the people.

Lastly, do us all a favor, at least have the decency to admit these policies are adversely impacting America’s communities. Every blue state is currently under siege and shares the same story, they are failing; they’re also completely run by Democrats. Call it whatever comforting term you prefer but at least be honest about your role in all the chaos you helped to create. You are not merely a spectator, or trapped by “the man,” you are directly responsible for keeping the dysfunctional machine operational.
