The right to peacefully protest, or the “redress of grievances” is the bedrock of a properly functioning democratic society.  This language is enshrined in America’s Bill of Rights and purposefully linked to the free speech clause in the first amendment of the Constitution.  Nowhere in our founding documents does it provide a free pass for violence or disorder.  The language exists to protect “peaceful” assembly and “free speech;” not to give a green light to armed anarchists and agitators hell-bent on turning America’s institutions into war zones. 
 
It seems each day we turn on the news, and the self-proclaimed peaceful protestors (rioters) are violently engaging law-enforcement officials at Immigration Detention Facilities in New Jersey, Oregon, and of course let’s not forget Minnesota.  The ongoing chaos erupting at these detention facilities is a shameful display of lawlessness masquerading as American activism.
 
Every day we witness violent protests, clashes with federal agents and police, and a parade of devastation that leaves no doubt about the real agenda here, chaos and destruction.  Rather than engage in constructive dialogue or lawful demonstrations, these paid anarchists choose the path of violence and intimidation.  Property is destroyed, lives are endangered, and the very fabric of civil society is shredded by the Democrat establishment pulling the strings. 
 
This is not the redressing of grievances; this is outright criminality.  And yet, there’s an alarming tendency among the mainstream media and Democrat party leaders to excuse or downplay this violent conduct.  The first amendment enables debate and dissent; it does not excuse or condone the commission of criminal acts.  Until agitators learn that lesson, constant riots will remain a blight on our communities, a drain on law-enforcement, and a tragic failure of civility.  It’s way past time to draw a line in the sand; it’s time to enforce our laws and make an unmistakable example out of every single one of them.
 
Accountability is a word that seems to have lost its meaning among these folks.  We demand consequences for tossing Molotov cocktails towards detention facilities, shooting fireworks at law-enforcement officers, doxing ICE employees or vandalizing public property.  We want justice for assaulting, biting, spitting, and other acts of violence against our brave men and women in uniform.   
 
Make no mistake about it, none of these are isolated incidents, they are a coordinated and well-funded effort by radical homegrown terrorist organizations like Antifa and BLM, designed to destabilize and intimidate America’s institutions.  The continued attacks on ICE facilities are a direct challenge to America’s sovereignty and the rule of law.  There is no moral righteousness behind their movement, it is simply seditious conduct and must be dealt with in a firm and unforgiving manner.  
 
These insurgents have zero regard for the rule of law.  The first amendment guarantees freedom of expression, but it does not guarantee immunity from the consequences of violent criminal behavior.  Those that cross that line must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and receive lengthy prison sentences.  For them, there is no room for leniency or compassion when America’s sovereignty is threatened under the false pretext of protest.
 
It’s also time to start calling out the enabling rhetoric that fuels these criminal gangs.  Democrat lawmakers who vacillate on these acts of violence against our institutions only embolden these riotous actors.  Silence and empty platitudes send a clear message that our laws can be violated with impunity if it’s politically advantageous for the left.  It’s simply beyond comprehension how today’s Democrats have traded reasoned discourse for riotous behavior.   This betrays any legitimate cause they might claim to represent. 
 
So, the next time you hear or see a protest turning into a riot with police officers being injured and federal facilities under siege, don’t turn a blind eye and accept the usual leftist empty platitudes.  Recognize it for what it is, a violent betrayal of our democratic values, brought to you by today’s Democrat party, which has become a stain on genuine activism.
