As expected, Bremerton High School Assistant Coach Joe Kennedy prayed on the field at Friday’s home opener.
The coach was fired in 2015 for praying on the 50-yard line with players, and what followed was a nearly decade-long legal battle.
Kennedy's return came with mixed reactions. Some said religion should stay private. Others believe Kennedy should have never been fired.
Under the stadium lights Friday, they all watched as he took a knee in prayer after the game.
"We have fought the good fight, and we finished this race, and we kept the faith the entire time,” Kennedy told reporters after the game.
