C.S. Lewis succinctly described progressivism as “state worship, predicated on the assumption of man’s inevitable rise to Godhood.” He further stated, “when our whole lives become the business of the state, we become slaves to the state and can no longer question the ideology of the state.”
Progressives may differ in their assessment of the issues facing America, but they share the same common view that government at every level must be actively involved in reform. They believe the U.S. Constitution is outdated and must be made into an evolutionary instrument of social change, with the acquiescence of an administrative bureaucracy and group of so-called experts calling the shots (the elites).
The visionary components of modern-day progressives rely heavily on fear, intimidation, violence and of course, identity politics to deliver their oppressive message. The free flow of debate and ideas have no place in progressive society and must be expelled from the town square at any cost. Cancel culture, political correctness, and the shouting down of descending opinions are foundational elements of the authoritarian movement.
Tolerance to alternative viewpoints has always been a staple in American culture but conflicts with the progressive dystopian vision. Speaking your constitutionally guaranteed mind can also get you expelled from school, fired from a job, kicked out of office, forced into bankruptcy, or targeted by the legal arms of government. Nothing is off limits to the destructive movement, as we now see the weaponization of law-enforcement institutions to silence political opponents.
The raid on Mar-a-Lago marks a dark day in American history. America’s justice department crossed a threshold reserved for banana republics and fledging dictatorships. The rounding up of Trump associates (Manafort, Stone, Navarro) was not enough of an intimidating statement the last two years, the agencies felt the need to drop a nuclear bomb on the republican establishment by raiding the ex-president’s home, Peruvian style.
Over the last 20 years, we’ve watched the department of justice and several of its enforcement agencies, including the FBI and IRS become political armaments of a corrupted executive branch. This is the second time in six years, the DOJ has injected itself into a presidential election, just months before the mid-terms.
What makes this moment in time especially treacherous, is the compliance of some within in the judicial branch. Allowing search warrants to be used as fishing expeditions and permitting broad based language that deviates from the four corners of a warrant’s intent. This includes the FISA court, America’s so-called secret court.
C.S. Lewis was also quoted as saying, “We all want progress, but if you’re on the wrong road, progress means doing an about turn and walking back to the right road. In that case, the man that turns back the soonest is the most progressive.”
Thanks, and God bless, Vincent
