One of the most deceitful tricks in politics, is to name a bill something it clearly is not. For example, in 2001, then President George Bush signed off on the most intrusive domestic surveillance bill in American history; and called it the Patriot Act. This gave U.S. government agencies the ability to spy on and collect data from American citizens without a warrant, as the constitution mandates. Clearly not patriotic.
Sadly, the Patriot Act is still being utilized by the federal government. This was the instrument used that allowed the FBI to surveil an American presidential candidate in the 2016 election.
Fast forward to 2023, and the Washington legislature has just finished wrapping up its legislative session. Engrossed Senate Bill 5599, the brainchild of progressive democrats, has just been signed off by Governor Jay Inslee, and now becomes law. The header given to the bill, “Legislation to protect trans youth seeking lifesaving care,” does anything but. It is simply the latest and most perverse piece of legislation to ever emanate from Olympia.
Sadly, ESB 5599 goes much further than just allowing minors to receive puberty blockers or other treatments to halt normal puberty. It allows for state sponsored irreversible sex change surgery on children, without parental consent. It allows the state to become the custodial guardian during such time; and will remove the child from his or her home if the parents disagree as the youngster’s radical surgery is carried out.
The “lifesaving care” sought by the democrat caucus is sex-change operations for America’s minor children, and effectively makes Washington a child sex-change sanctuary state, the first of its kind.
For the record, the effects of chemically blocking puberty are devastating on a young child’s mind and body. The ability for a child to understand the gravity of such a decision must be called into question. Children going through puberty often think irrationally and certainly emotionally. They are clearly not able to make irreversible life altering decisions.
When used appropriately, puberty blockers are an effective treatment for children suffering from the early onset of puberty. Long term studies show the benefits and efficacy when used appropriately. However, when used to simply alter the gender of a child, long term studies have not been conducted here in the United States.
Nevertheless, long term studies have been conducted in the United Kingdom, and the findings support a growing body of evidence showing the harm and irreparable damage of these experimental medical treatments in children seeking to alter their gender. This includes, but is not limited to, stunted growth, loss of bone density, lack of brain function, sterility, permanent facial and body changes, hypertension, blood clots, heart problems, suicide and much more.
Every democrat in Washington’s house and senate voted for the barbaric measure that will allow the state to remove children from their parents and legal guardians’ homes without consent to conduct sex-change surgeries. In what seems almost unconscionable, the anti-family and anti-parent measure is now law in Washington.
In the grand scheme of things, we hope that parenting will be left to the parents. The role of the parent has been cemented in American culture for centuries. The expectation that every man and woman have when deciding on procreating, is that they will be the one’s shaping and mentoring their children’s lives, not public schools or the state.
What can be said about a government that looks to replace the parental unit with proxies of the state? Parents must always be the biggest stakeholders for their children’s lives.
My hope is that prosecutors and district attorneys will get creative and apply current laws on the books to protect the mutilation of a child’s genitalia. There are many laws that protect children from harm, and I suspect we will traverse that landscape when the time comes. Unfortunately, this will mean that someone’s child has been victimized. At the very least, this should be decided by citizen referendum, and I suspect we are heading down that road.
Lastly, there is no justification for the intentional mutilation of a child’s body. Performing a double mastectomy on a healthy girl or removing a penis from a healthy young boy is simply depraved indifference for profit. Doctors and hospitals would be wise to reconsider this practice.
