Erin Ward, 45, pleaded “no contest” to one count of child abuse — which was reduced from the original charge of first degree sexual abuse by a school employee as part of the agreement.

In April, Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call regarding a suspicious vehicle parked on a dead end road in an Elkhorn neighborhood.

When they approached, the car tried to flee and crashed into a lawn a few blocks away. Authorities then reported seeing a teenage male in a stage of undress exit the car and run, while Ward, the passenger, was trying to put her clothes back on.

Deputies said Ward admitted to having sex with the victim, who was a student at an Omaha high school where she worked as a substitute teacher. They arrested Ward on the scene and later found the boy in another neighborhood nearby.

In November, Ward pleaded no contest to an amended charge of felony child abuse.

During her sentencing hearing Wednesday, Ward was sentenced to three years of probation and avoids jail time.
