SEATTLE — Seattle recorded its 50th homicide of 2023 Thursday morning when a man was shot and killed in the Belltown neighborhood.
According to Seattle police, the shooting happened at the Langdon and Anne Simmons Senior Apartments in the 2100 block of 3rd Ave. around 1:00 a.m.
First responders attempted to save the man's life but were unsuccessful, and homicide detectives were called to the scene. A SWAT team responded to the apartments around 9:00 a.m., but it's not clear what prompted their response.
The investigation marks the 50th homicide of 2023, according to Seattle police. The city recorded 52 homicides in all of 2022, 43 in 2021, 53 in 2020, and 36 in 2019.
