Gov. Mike Kehoe has authorized the state's National Guard to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers with their mass deportation efforts in the state.
The governor's announcement on Tuesday said the Guard will start supporting ICE personnel starting Oct. 1 and running through September 2026. Officials said 15 Guard members will reportedly assist with data entry, case management, and logistical support.
The governor’s office confirmed with 5 On Your Side that the 15 members will remain under state command, but federally funded. Officials declined to answer whether Guard members will arrive at ICE facilities in combat gear, despite being assigned to administrative duties.
