They rejected a millage to support the Patmos library, which takes away 84 percent of the library’s $245,000 budget. Library board president Larry Walton said that the library is expected to run out of money by late next year.
“I wasn’t expecting anything like this,” Walton said to reporters at Bridge Michigan. “The library is the center of the community. For individuals to be short sighted to close that down over opposing LGBTQ is very disappointing.”
Jamestown voters rejected the millage by an astounding 25 points on Tuesday. It was crushed by a 62 percent to 37 percent margin on the same day that millages to support improving roads and fire were approved by voters.
