Following Argyle’s commanding 70–21 victory over Somerset Academy Losee of Las Vegas, head coach Todd Rodgers spoke about the foundation behind one of Texas high school football’s most consistent programs.

For Rodgers, success begins with clearly defined expectations.

“Our program adheres to three goals: district champions, playing in December and winning a state championship,” Rodgers said.

Those goals are ambitious, but they are not simply words displayed inside the field house. They influence how Argyle prepares, practices and approaches every game.

Rodgers has built the Eagles around a commitment to executing the basic fundamentals of football. Before players focus on making spectacular one-handed catches or creating highlight-reel moments, he wants them to make the smartest and most effective football play.

Catch the football. Protect the ball. Make the tackle. Complete the assignment.

The philosophy may sound simple, but consistently executing those details has helped Rodgers establish a winning culture at Argyle, where success is not merely celebrated but expected.

Since I began covering the program in 2022, Argyle has reached the playoffs every season. That consistency reflects the standard Rodgers and his coaching staff have established throughout the program. Players graduate and new leaders emerge, but the expectations remain unchanged.

This season carries additional significance for a talented senior class featuring Julian Caldwell, Ake O’Neal, Logan Rexroat, Micah De Leon and Brody Bomar. Together, they hope to make a deep postseason run and ultimately finish their high school careers playing at AT&T Stadium.

The Eagles have already shown how dangerous they can be offensively.

Rexroat opened the season with a scorching start, giving Argyle a dependable weapon out of the backfield. Caldwell then made an explosive return against Somerset Academy Losee, scoring four touchdowns and immediately adding another dimension to the offense.

With Caldwell back in the lineup and players such as O’Neal, Rexroat and De Leon contributing around him, Argyle possesses the experience and playmaking ability needed to challenge opposing defenses in multiple ways. Bomar provides veteran leadership on the other side of the ball, helping anchor a defense that will become increasingly important as the Eagles move toward district play and another potential postseason appearance.

However, Rodgers’ impact cannot be measured only through scores, statistics or playoff appearances. His greatest contribution may be the standard he has created, one that teaches players that exceptional results are produced through consistent preparation and attention to detail.

Argyle may have plenty of athletes capable of producing spectacular highlights, but the Eagles’ pursuit of another championship remains grounded in something far less flashy: doing the basic things correctly, one play at a time.

The victory over Somerset Academy Losee offered another glimpse of the team’s potential. With an experienced senior class, an explosive offense and a proven leader guiding the program, Argyle appears primed to make another serious push.

The destination the Eagles have in mind is clear: a district championship, football in December and an opportunity to play for a state title.

Under Todd Rodgers, anything less has never been the standard.
