Cullman County, Ala. Sheriff Matt Gentry expressed his outrage Wednesday after a migrant and a local veteran were taken to the hospital with wounds stemming from a physical altercation.
“I’m pissed off today,” Gentry said during a press conference. “I’m pissed off that we’re having to even have this conversation.”
Gentry explained the fight occurred along County Road 463 when the two agreed to an in-person meeting to exchange a trailer. Alexander Chen, Gentry said, had entered the country illegally from Guatemala several years ago before becoming a “violent criminal.”
“I don’t know about you, but that pisses me off that we allow an illegal alien, who was identified as Alexander Chen through Guatemala, into our country,” he said.
The sheriff noted the veteran, identified elsewhere as Glenn Gildon, had a firearm with him during the meeting which was “probably the only thing that saved his life.” Chen allegedly offered to drive the veteran to see the trailer before trying to rob him at knifepoint.
