ICE detains semi-truck driver after fatal Indiana crash

A fatal semi-truck crash in Hendricks County has become another flashpoint in the Trump administration's crackdown on the presence of immigrant truck drivers on U.S. roadways.

The Feb. 18 crash occurred around noon on U.S. Route 36 at the intersection of Country Road 525 East and claimed the life of 64-year-old Terry Schultz of Carmel.

The Hendricks County Sheriff's Office identified the driver of the semi-truck as Sukhdeep Singh. Capt. Jim Yetter, public information officer for the sheriff's office, said Indiana State Police detained Singh at the accident scene for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Yetter said he could not provide additional details about Singh's legal status or detention, deferring questions to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and ICE. A spokesman for Indiana State Police also declined to comment.
