Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell is being sued by The Committee to Stop an Unfair Tax after the Choose How You Move transit plan passed overwhelmingly earlier this month.
The suit, also filed by Emily Evans of Nashville, claims the plan violates state law because it supports infrastructure that shouldn't be classified for a transit improvement plan under the law.
Mayor O'Connell is responding, telling FOX 17 News in a statement:
"The overwhelming majority of Nashvillians, 66%, agree that our city deserves a transportation system befitting a modern major city and approved the Choose How You Move referendum. We are moving forward with implementation of the program which was fully vetted by attorneys, accountants, the Metro Council, and ultimately the people of Nashville."
Voters passed a 0.5% increase to the sales tax that will expand WeGo bus service, convert hundreds of traffic lights to smart signals and add sidewalks.
