Executive Director of Black Lives Matter Oklahoma City charged with embezzlement

Federal authorities have charged Tashella Sheri Amore Dickerson, 52, the Executive Director of Black Lives Matter Oklahoma City (BLMOKC), with embezzling at least $3.15 million in funds meant to help bail detained Oklahomans out of jail. A federal grand jury indicted Dickerson on December 3, 2025, on 20 counts of wire fraud and five counts of money laundering. Prosecutors allege that from June 2020 through at least October 2025, Dickerson diverted returned bail checks donated to the organization into her personal bank, PayPal, and Cash App accounts rather than returning them to BLMOKC.

According to the Department of Justice, the money—which was raised under the pretense of covering bail for individuals held in one of the country’s deadliest jails—was instead spent on a lavish personal lifestyle. Dickerson allegedly used the funds for recreational travel to Jamaica and the Dominican Republic for herself and her associates, and dropped tens of thousands of dollars on retail shopping sprees. She also spent at least $50,000 on food and grocery deliveries through services like DoorDash and Instacart for herself and her children.

The indictment further details major purchases of tangible assets. Prosecutors say Dickerson bought a new Hyundai Palisade registered in her name, with one report placing the vehicle’s cost at $42,000. Additionally, she allegedly purchased six real estate properties in Oklahoma City, totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars. These properties were deeded either in her own name or under Equity International, LLC, an entity she exclusively controlled. One property was even labeled “church property” for the nonprofit’s use yet was purchased in her personal name.

If convicted, Dickerson faces significant prison time—up to 20 years for each wire fraud count and 10 years for each money laundering count—and potential forfeiture of the properties and assets acquired with the embezzled funds.
