SEATTLE — Seattle business and civic leaders are reacting to the State of Downtown as they work to get visitors to return to the city's core.
Many of them are calling for a better approach to the drug crisis that spurs much of downtown's crime.
“Let's just give a plug for 2024 being the year of downtown,” Seattle City Council President Sara Nelson stated at the start of Thursday’s event, confident it is a transformative time for downtown with support from a new, public-safety-focused city council.
A crowd of 1,100 civic and business leaders listened to the Downtown Seattle Association's annual report on downtown's progress and challenges as they work to bring back pre-pandemic visitor numbers.
