SEATTLE — Local organizations rallied, and called for justice for Jaahnavi Kandula, a 23-year-old graduate student who was hit and killed by a Seattle Police Department (SPD) vehicle near the corner of Dexter Avenue North and Thomas Street around 8 p.m. on Jan. 23.
According to the SPD, the officer was responding to a priority one call at the time and had been with the SPD since November 2019.
Thursday night's rally, which began at 5 p.m., came just days after body camera video was released in which Det. Daniel Auderer can be heard making insensitive comments and laughing following the fatal crash.
"I mean, he was going 50 (mph)," Auderer said in the video. "That's not out of control. That's not reckless for a trained driver."
