On Monday (April 13), the Texas-born superstar shared Dear Houston, a behind-the-scenes look at the milestone moment for him. Johnson performed the largest concert in NRG Stadium’s history, with 80,203 tickets sold for the concert-only event, per the video (previously, country legend George Strait held the record at 80,108 tickets). JT Colston directed and edited Dear Houston, using footage from himself and fellow camera operators Micah Heinold, Brad Holmes and Trevor Lamb, plus photos by JT Trevino.
“I want that moment. I want to be the guy that holds the record for the biggest show at Rodeo Houston. And we did it,” Johnson, who recently paid tribute to late legend Merle Haggard with a rendition of “Footlights,” said at the beginning of Dear Houston. He added later, “this ain’t no regular show. And in the words of Waylon Jennings, ‘this ain’t no dress rehearsal.’ This is the big time. And we are professionals.”
