First responders in Chattanooga located a deceased individual on Wednesday afternoon while searching for a man who was swept away by floodwaters Tuesday, bringing the flooding death count to four, officials said.
The Chattanooga Police Department's homicide unit is investigating the death, and the Hamilton County medical examiner will determine the cause of death, Lindsey Rogers, a spokesperson for the Chattanooga Fire Department, said in an email.
While first responders believe the deceased individual is the man at the center of the search, they cannot confirm that, Rogers said in an email to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
"A K-9 from the Bradley County Sheriff's Office alerted in the search area Wednesday afternoon and CPD's drone unit helped provide a better aerial view," Rogers said. "CFD personnel were on the ground aiding in the search efforts."
