U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) says she would "urge" President Donald Trump to endorse U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), who's running for reelection against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
The two candidates went neck-and-neck in the recent GOP primary, forcing a runoff election. However, a Trump endorsement could heavily sway the odds toward one candidate or the other, and could even end the race entirely if the other were to drop out.
Speculation has been mounting that Trump will endorse Cornyn, who performed better than expected in the primary. Trump has previously called Cornyn a RINO (Republican in name only), while Paxton has been a loyal ally and rising star among the MAGA base.
"There's nothing more powerful than President Trump's endorsement. I want to see John Cornyn come back to the United States Senate," she told host Dasha Burns. "And I think John has done an exceptional job internally in our conference. He's articulating the president's vision in a number of ways of how we actually achieve it."
