Over the last 6 months Democrats have repeatedly won elections in Florida, its a fact. Most analysis of yesterday's primary isn't considering Florida is a CLOSED primary.

Turnout has cost the GOP election after election since last November, especially in Florida over the last 6 months. It's not as apparent in a primary where only Republicans or Democrats can vote for only their parties candidates.

Some Numbers: GOP registered in Florida - 5.6 million Dems registered in Florida- 4 million Minor Parties and Independents registered in Florida - 4 million (That last group did not vote in Tuesday's primary)

  • Sarasota County School Board flipped to Liberal Tuesday (Home of RNC Chair Joe Gruters)
  • Boca Raton Mayor flipped months ago to Liberal
  • Miami Mayor flipped to Liberal months ago
  • 2 Special Elections for the Florida State House flipped to Democrat in March, including the representative for Mar A Lago.
Turnout Tuesday again favored Democrats, but not by much, only 2%.

Florida Election Watch Special

However, 4 million registered voters can make a difference in the General Election in November.

Fact: Byron Donalds got less GOP votes than the 4 other GOP candidates combined. His win was not a referendum for his candidacy and he will have his hands full in November. GOP Turnout has got get better!

Byron Donalds will run against David Jolly. Jolly was a Republican in the House of Representatives only 6 years ago. He sat in the same seat as Anna Paulina Luna does now. He is considered moderate. He changed to Democrat only 18 months ago. With 4 million Independent voters in Florida, who did not participate Tuesday, this Florida governor race will be much closer than people expect.

In fact, Jolly says if the election were held today he would win. Republicans have the votes in Florida, obviously, but will they get off the couch and vote or will they stay home and lose another Florida election?
